Simple Century Tuna Recipe


Filipino Century Tuna Spicy Empanada




For Empanada Filling:

5 x 95g cans Century Light Tuna Spicy

1 onion finely chopped

1 large carrot finely chopped

1/2 cup green peas

3 cloves garlic minced

1/4 cup raisins

1 tbsp. soy sauce

2 large potatoes diced

salt and pepper to taste


For Empanada dough:

2 cups all purpose flour

1 tsp. salt

1 stick butter, slice in cubes

1 fresh egg

1 tbsp. white vinegar

1/4 cup water



For dough:

1. Combine flour and salt in a bowl. Using your clean hands, mix in butter.

2. Whisk vinegar, egg, and water in another bowl. Pour into the flour mixture and knead with your hands.

3. Shape the dough in circular form and cover with plastic wrapper. Leave in the fridge for 1 hour.

4. Take a piece of dough about the size of a golf ball and flatten with a rolling pin, roll each flour mixture until it’s about 1/8 inch thick. Make a circle using a wide mouthed bottle with the dough and remove excess dough. Set aside.

For filling:

1. Sauté onion and garlic. Add Century Tuna and sauté for a few minutes. Add carrots and potatoes. Stir frequently for 10 minutes.

2. Add raisins, potatoes and green peas. Flavor with soy sauce, pepper and salt. Cook vegetables and set aside.

3. Get a spoonful of the filling and put in it into the center of the dough. Cover the filling using the dough, fold it edge to the edge & press edges using a fork.

4. Brush the dough with a combination of egg and milk. Arrange them on a baking tray with a baking sheet in it.

5. Bake in a preheated oven at 375 degrees for at least 20 minutes or until browned.
